Disabling User Account Control

If you are a Vista User, you will definitely remember UAC (User Account Control). It’s the obnoxious, nagging popup window that makes you want to switch back to XP. For your information, for regular daily users, turning UAC off will most probably not harm your PC in any way. But still, your system will be less secure.

There is a quick way to disable UAC from the Control Panel

Open up Control Panel, and type in “UAC” into the search box. You’ll see a link for “Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off”:

On the next screen you should uncheck the box for “Use User Account Control (UAC)”, and then click on the OK button.

or you can use msconfig if you like:

  1. Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.
  2. Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC" . Click on that line.
    MSCONFIG - Disable Account Protection
  3. Press the Launch button.
  4. A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.
  5. Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.

You can re-enable UAC by selecting the "Enable UAC" line and then clicking on the Launch button.

You’ll need to reboot your computer before the changes take effect, but you should be all done with annoying prompts.

Megaupload No Waiting Time Add-on

Yes! This small yet useful add-on has been shared for times already and I have just found it out recently. Basically this helps you to download from Megaupload faster and easier. You only need to enter the captcha and your browser or download manager will capture the download job automatically.

I have tried this add-on for several days before I post it here to make sure that it does not, apparently, affect your download such as: possible corrupted downloads, download error, SFX error in the RAR archive downloaded, bandwidth issue during the download that may occur because we somehow 'trick' the waiting time script. The result? No difference at all! You can now download more conveniently from Megaupload.

For some schools like mine, Rapidshare is blocked and we are unable to download files from Rapidshare fast. Therefore, these days, I have moved to be another Megaupload customer. You may consider to move too in case your school has banned Rapidshare either.

Here is the download page for the add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11051. Install the add-on and restart your firefox. The add-on will skip the waiting time when you want to download from Megaupload automatically now.

In case you have problem or feel uncomfortable with the add-on, you can easily disable it from Tools > Add-ons.

Finding Published Date of a Webpage

When one is looking for an article online, one would need to find out the details about the webpage. One of the common details is the date when the webpage is first uploaded on to a publus web server so that we can find and read it.

Using some tweak on thr address url on google search result, it is possible to find the published date of a webpage quite easily.

Here are the steps to follow:
  1. Go to Google.com, and type the website url.
  2. Go to the browser address bar, and add "&as_qdr=y15" at the end of the address.
  3. You will notice the publication date.
